Since it began producing Børge Mogensen’s pieces in 2018, Carl Hansen and Søn has emerged as one of the foremost sources of his furniture. According to the Danish furniture mainstay’s CEO, Knud Erik Hansen, Mogensen became known as “the people’s designer” for his democratic approach to creating wooden furniture that united accessibility, function, and quality in pieces constructed with such integrity that they could go on to become future heirlooms. This approach, along with those of Arne Jacobsen and Hans Wegner, went on to earn Danish design the international acclaim it still commands today.

Now, Carl Hansen & Søn is making even more of Mogensen’s work newly accessible to consumers with two launches: an archival sideboard created in 1957 and a table bench from 1958. The BM0057 Sideboard shines in its simplicity. Part of Mogensen’s design brief was to let its materiality speak for itself. The hand-assembled piece features bifold doors, mortise, tenon, and beveled joinery, and room for even the most eager host to store up to 12 place settings.

Behind the table bench’s deceptively straightforward form is six hours of focus from the master craftsmen who weave more than 300 yards of double plane-weave paper cord into its solid oak frame. Both the sideboard and the bench, which are intended to be multifunctional and timeless, make Mogensen’s original vision available to a new generation—no auction-hunting necessary.
