We are especially
excited to announce the return of visionary American artist
Mike Perry b. 1981 for his third solo exhibition, Fluidic Space and A Cosmic Cocktail which marks a significant milestone in the
gallery’s decade-long history. Mike played a pivotal role in allowing
the gallery to be among the first downtown galleries to reopen in
the summer of 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Mike is making
his third triumphant return showcasing a series of powerful cosmic
landscapes and figurative works produced in 2023 through 2024 and
the introduction of a series of striking 8-footers never before seen.

Mike Perry’s artistic journey with the Richard Taittinger Gallery began
in 2020 with a marquee show Still Now is Here: Woolgather Together,
reflecting the resilience and power of art to unite people during difficult
times and setting the stage for a strong and enduring collaboration.
In 2021, Perry returned for his second solo show, Impetuous Meetings
with Myself: Dancing with Ducklegangers, captivating audiences
with an evolving dialogue on joy and community amid isolation.
The exhibition not only solidified Perry’s status as a rising creative
but also reinforced the Richard Taittinger Gallery’s commitment to
support the local art scene by showcasing groundbreaking, Brooklyn
contemporary art.

As the world re-opened post-pandemic, his artistic practice reached
new levels in 2023 when he began a breakthrough collaboration
with the French, luxury brand, Hermès: transforming the iconic brands
window displays across New York. Now, in 2024, Mike Perry returns
for his third solo exhibition at the Richard Taittinger Gallery. This
milestone event promises to be a continuation of Perry’s artistic
exploration, offering visitors a glimpse into the artist’s ever-evolving

We asked Mike to share his insights and thoughts on his exciting 3rd
solo exhibition at Richard Taittinger Gallery:

Paintings of various scales, both large and small, capture the
mesmerizing movements of water, exploring the timeless interplay of
light, movement, and memory. Amidst these aquatic wonders, step
into a room adorned with fun cocktails and cartoonish characters—
a whimsical tableau that invites you to revel in the joyous celebration
of life and art. This chromatic symphony unfolds as a testament to
the ever-shifting currents of time and water, presenting a challenge
to the canvas.

It is not merely freezing a moment but rather coaxing
the exuberant spirit to dance within each vivid stroke, urging the
brush to become a conduit for the dynamic essence of the scene. In
this vivid showcase, the task is not solely to encapsulate a moment’s
exuberance but to immerse the observer in the pulsating vibrancy
inherent in each brushstroke—a joyous revelation of the intricate
interplay between water’s dance and the lively palette of a cosmic
celebration. Join me in this chromatic journey, where the ordinary
transforms into the extraordinary, and the joy of creation is as
palpable as the colors that adorn each canvas.

Mike Perry is an Emmy-winning artist who makes paintings, animation,
sculptures, books, public art installations, monographs, exhibitions,
drawings, silkscreens, and more. His creative purpose is to conjure that
feeling of soul-soaring wonder you have when you stare into distant
galaxies on a night, when you go on long journeys into the
imagination when you ponder what it is that this life is all about.
In so
doing, he celebrates form: of the human body, of shapes and lines that
coalesce into lyrical masses, of the vastness of the cosmos and the
questions it calls us to.

In Mike’s patterns, portraits, and dreamscapes,
there are layers upon layers of meaning, some erased, some covering,
some asking you to look deeper, some no longer there but still vibrating
with a story that sought not to be forgotten. His use of color, pattern,
and form, at times childlike, expresses a joyful spirit and a reverence
for the bliss that is inherent in the human experience. He is continually
exercising his faith in the transformative power of making things. His work
can be considered love notes to the abstract, unknowable future that
is all possible in the present. He invites you to join him on this curious
journey to discover more of the unknown.

Mike’s work has been exhibited across the globe in countries such as
Germany, Australia, China, Singapore, and Holland with solo shows
featured in London – “The Landscape Between Time & Space” 2008,
Tokyo – “We are the Infinity of Each Other” 2011, NY – “Wandering
Around Wondering” 2012, and most recently “Intoxicating Pollen Wiggling
in a Moist Journey of Constantly Blooming Tides” at Garis & Hahn’s
new Los Angeles location in the fall of 2017. He is the co-curator of the
ongoing series “#GetNudeGetDrawn” which just had its Mike Perry, 9th
installment in the spring of 2018.

His foray into the world of animation
has been highlighted by his continued work on Comedy Central’s Broad
City which resulted in the Television Academy awarded Mike Perry
Studio the 2018 Emmy winner of their Motion Design Jury Award for the
“Mushrooms” Episode. To round out his creative canon one can throw
in a dozen art & design books in print along with a stint of illustrations
for Playboy magazine. When Mike is not sharing his knowledge at the
likes of Parsons at the New School, Adobe’s 99U conference, or an 8th
grade art class at the World School, he is drinking coffee and painting
in his Brooklyn-based studio under the watchful gaze of Bass the dog.
