ILL-STUDIO and Slam Jam joined forces with Milan-based NM3 to create a time capsule, aptly titled Dear World. Akin to a sci-fi dream, the immersive installation features a curated selection of images and audio pieces, assembling a “tactile library of contemporary culture” for generations to come.
The contents culminate in the work of 37 artists, merging the deeply personal and globally resonant artifacts and ephemera, housed under a sleek, stainless steel frame. The capsule will also include a curated selection of 100 songs, which will play in the gallery as a soundscape, reflecting today’s emotional landscape through a sound system installation by Giorgio Di Salvo.
Dear World expands on the mission of Attention Deficit Disorder Prosthetic Memory Program (ADDPMP), defined by ILL-STUDIO founder Thomas Subreville as a “subjective encyclopedia of universal information.” In contrast to the hefty two-volume archive of, well, everything, the time capsule serves a distilled yet comprehensive exploration of time, existence and legacy in this day and age.
“Each submission assembles as a subjective take on human civilization’s earth and echoes the intricate themes woven throughout the ADDPMP volumes,” the studio wrote. “Chosen for their symbolic and cultural significance, they will serve as snapshots of our current era, encapsulating the essence of our fleeting present for future discovery.”
In true time capsule fashion, the installation will be sealed after the exhibition period, and is scheduled to reopen in 2074. Check out Dear World now on view at Spazio Maiocchi, before it heads to storage on January 14, 2025.
