A new, lovesick group exhibition has landed at Lodovico Corsini in Brussels. Curated by artist and writer Charlie Fox, Flowers of Romance surveys the work of nearly two dozen artists, tracing through love’s many faces. Following the presentation of Day earlier this fall, Act Two or Night delves into the messiness of heartbreak and obsession, inviting us to explore the darker side of desire.
Beneath the Oliver Leith’s never-ending soundtrack, the gallery transforms into a hallucinatory landscape – soft grass carpets the floor while pink-tinted windows bathe the space in a sickly sweet glow. From snarling dog puppets to photographs steeped in the acidic and evocative, the exhibition transcends into viewers a dream state, mirroring the seductive and sinister power of love.
“I wanted to make a dissociative zone where all kinds of magical objects could flirt with each other and seduce you, like wandering around a Disney version of the Garden of the Eden on hallucinogens, full of wild animals freaking out, weird music, lush grass underfoot like in Alice Through the Looking-Glass.”
The second act of Flowers of Romance is now on view in Brussels through December 21, 2024.
