Here, we ask designers to take a selfie and give us an inside look at their life.

Age: 37 (Cedric). 36 (Sophie).

Occupation: Designers.

Instagram: @studio.haos

Hometown: Paris.

Studio location: Lisbon.

Describe what you make: We make furniture and lighting.

The most important thing you’ve designed to date: Our design work is a journey and we are just getting started. I wouldn’t deem anything we’ve done so far “important”, but if you ask us the same question in 20 years I certainly hope I’ll be able to offer a different answer.

Describe the problem your work solves: We believe that the beauty of design holds greater power in modesty, and as a result reject the “need” for expensive materials or rare expertise. Our goal is to convey emotion in the most elemental way possible, without the frivolous complication often associated with contemporary design.

Describe the project you’re working on now: We recently opened a large workshop in Lisbon with the aim of being able to produce all our pieces in-house. We are currently working out the transition from the way we used to work, typically with French craftsmen who would handle the production of the pieces, to a more experimental approach.

A new or forthcoming project we should know about: We just launched our fourth collection of furniture and lighting at Love House, New York, on April 28.

What you absolutely must have in your studio: As much light as possible, and music as loud as the neighbors will allow.

What you do when you’re not working: Spend time with our three-year-old son.

Sources of creative envy (dead or alive): There are many we admire! The difficulty is not finding sources of inspiration—it’s learning from them without being overcome. To name a few in different fields: Thomas Vinterberg, Alec Soth, Gerrit Rietveld.

The distraction you want to eliminate: We need distractions!

Concrete or marble? Concrete. Accessible anywhere and easy to shape.

High-rise or townhouse? Townhouse.

Remember or forget? Remember.

Aliens or ghosts? Aliens because ghosts don’t exist! 😉

Dark or light? Light.
