Avant garde artist Robert Rauschenberg, who died in 2008, was born in Port Arthur, Texas, in 1925. Exhibitions around the globe are planned to celebrate his centenary next year.
‘The Centennial serves as not only a moment to reflect on Rauschenberg’s indelible legacy, but also as a catalyst for the century ahead,’ said Courtney J. Martin, Executive Director of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. ‘Through these celebrations, our vision is to move his ethos forward and reinforce his relevance to artists, changemakers, and communities today and in the future.’

There is a recent precedent for this sort of artist anniversary exhibition series. In 2023, 50 exhibitions—including comedian Hannah Gadsby’s It’s Pablo-matic at the Brooklyn Museum—were held to mark the 50 years since Pablo Picasso‘s death in 1973. —[O]
